EHA Tech Tour 2024 – Taipei – ASUS

Concluzii

Q&A

1 – Why is there no Crosshair Extreme version for X870E?

The decision to not release a Crosshair Extreme version for the X870E platform is based on the overall positioning of our product lineup. Our Z890E platform, like the Maximus Z890 series, caters to users seeking extreme, top-tier performance. However, given the growing demand for AMD X3D processors, we will be assessing the potential for adding this to our schedule moving forward.

2 – Why there’s no 10Gbe LAN on X870E Crosshair line-up?

The decision to exclude 10GbE LAN on the X870E Crosshair series was made based on the specific needs and feedback from our core user base. For most gaming and enthusiast use cases, the standard 2.5GbE and 1GbE LAN ports provide more than enough bandwidth. However, we are continuously evaluating the demand for features like 10GbE for future product iterations, especially as high-speed networking becomes more widespread in gaming, streaming, and content creation.

3 – Will you launch more affordable cases with 2 x USB-C on the front panel in the near future?

We will launch one in Q3 2025.

4 – Any plans to launch a ROG Strix Arion with USB4?

We will first launch 20Gbps SSD Enclosure for ROG but we are studying 40Gbps (USB4) SSD Enclosure now, hopefully to launch by the end of 2025.

5 – Any plans to use Asetek Emma Gen8 V2 in scaled down / more affordable AIOs?

EMMA V2 is the flagship product from our supplier, Asetek, and consequently, it comes with the high cost. Therefore, such products are typically paired with flagship models, like the ROG series AIO coolers. And for the mainstream market, high costs can directly impact product pricing and affect market competitiveness. However, we are continuously working with our supplier to optimize product features from high-end models. On the other hand, we are seeking different pump suppliers to optimize pricing and product features, ensuring that we have suitable solutions for various product segmentations.

6 – What is your opinion on CAMM2 memory? Any plans to launch a Z890 motherboard based on the ASUS ROG Z790 Lengshuikeng concept? Maybe a BTF version?

It is indeed under development. As for the actual launch time of mass production, it mainly depends on market trends and is under evaluation.

7 – What was the market response to dual mode monitors? Is there a rising interest for this type of product?

We believe dual-mode gaming monitors will become a trend next year, as they allow gamers to experience both high resolution and high refresh rates on a single display without compromising.

8 – What was the reason for powering the Z890 motherboard’s VRM using both the EPS and 24-pin connectors?

Firstly, the CPU’s 12V power doesn’t have to come only from the 8-pin connector; it can also be drawn from the 24-pin connector. We made this design choice due to changes in Intel’s power architecture. In some high-end motherboards with over 20-phase power setups, there’s not enough space above and to the left of the CPU for all power components, as placing them to the right is not an option. So, we placed some components below the CPU, closer to the 24-pin connector. This layout effectively reduces voltage drop and improves overall power efficiency.
From our experience, even when some power is used for the CPU, the 12V from the 24-pin connector is enough for 99.99% of situations, supporting many peripherals. This design meets the high power demands of modern systems while maintaining efficiency and reliability.

9 – The ROG Crosshair X670E Gene was a popular mATX motherboard for achieving very high memory frequencies on the AMD platform. Will we see any X870 or X870E model with similar characteristics?

The X870E platform is still new, and we are focused on delivering top performance and flexibility across all form factors. To achieve similar overclocking potential, we’re exploring the option of a 2-DIMM X870E model, which could offer comparable benefits if there’s enough demand. Stay tuned!

10 – The BTF standard has been on the market for some time now. How do you see its adoption by end users? Are they primarily interested in motherboards and cases, or do they prefer the entire ecosystem, including VGAs as well?

The adoption of BTF is still relatively low, primarily because BTF products tend to be released later than their standard boards. Our sales strategy often involves bundling BTF motherboards with BTF graphics cards to achieve a clean and organized build. However, the supply of graphics cards has been challenging to manage, which has affected the growth of BTF. Despite these challenges, we see BTF as a long-term plan and expect that as the ecosystem becomes more robust, more users will choose BTF for their builds in the future.
